99forthe1 meets those in need where they already are — there is no need to come to us. With our unique mobile homeless ministry, we are able to lend a hand right where its needed most. A one stop shop to make those in need feel good again. They can walk in one door, shower, shave, get clean clothes, fill a bag with hygiene products for the week, get a meal and walk out the other door feeling good about themselves. We don’t want to give a hand out, but more of a hand up.

Coaster Coffee is a neighborhood focused, friendly place offering customers the best prepared coffee in the area, complimented with specialty drinks, pastries, free books patrons can enjoy during their visit, and music to fit the mood. Coaster coffee is operating as a non-profit business. All profits go back into the community by feeding the hungry, building community gardens, teaching kids the arts and helping people who are out of work secure employment. Other creative ways to put resources back into the community to benefit our city will continue to be developed.

JCOC offers second chances to people in crisis. Our mission is to empower homeless families and individuals to recover from crisis situations and return to being self-supporting, productive, and independent members of our community. We provide individual and group counseling, housing location and financial assistance, educational resources and employment services so that clients have the best chance to obtain permanent housing and sustainable employment. Most importantly we serve as advocates and support system to help our clients transition out of crisis and into a new life.

Our ultimate goal is to purchase or lease our first maternity home to temporarily house young mothers and their small children should they find themselves homeless or without support from family or the father of their baby. As Advocates, we connect single mothers to local resources. The goal is to help these single mothers to become self-sufficient by learning to take care of themselves and their babies, while they work at improving their financial situation through education and training, connecting them to community resources and assistance, and moving them into their own home, with a job, child care and transportation.

Team Hoyt VB is a sub-chapter of The Hoyt Foundation, founded by Dick and Rick Hoyt. Born in 1962, Rick was diagnosed as a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy. Dick and his then-wife, Judy, were advised to institutionalize Rick because there was no chance of him recovering, and little hope for Rick to live a 'normal' life. This was just the beginning of Dick and Judy's quest for Rick's inclusion in community, sports, education and one day, the workplace.

The Eliza Hope Foundation and therapy center is a place for children and families affected by Autism. The mission of the Eliza Hope Foundation is to provide educational support for children and families who are living with Autism Spectrum disorders in the Hampton Roads area and beyond. The H.E.R. Shelter is a private, non-profit agency, certified by the United Way of South Hampton Roads, and the statewide coalition: Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance (VSDVAA). We participate in the Coordinated Crisis Response, a 24-hour emergency hotline where a trained advocate can assist individuals in need of information, referrals, or - when appropriate - can provide safe, emergency housing for a woman and her children. The H.E.R Shelter currently operates two shelter facilities in the cities of Portsmouth and Chesapeake, Virginia.

Young Life is making a difference in the lives of kids around the world because we are supported by adults who care about kids in their community. For every talented Young Life staff person there is a team of dedicated leaders who works directly with kids. In each community, the local “committee,” comprised of parents, Young Life alumni and civic leaders, provides a foundation of financial, administrative and moral support for the local Young Life team.
